💡 What is % Heavy to Chart?
The GPC OTT chart estimates a pumpkin's weight from its measurements (end-to-end + side-to-side + circumference). % Heavy = how much more (or less) the actual weigh-off weight is compared to the chart estimate. A pumpkin that is +15% heavy on a 480" tape weighs ~300 lbs more than the chart predicts — that's a massive competitive advantage. This tool finds which crosses consistently produce dense, heavy offspring.
📐 GPC Chart Normalization Active
The GPC updated its OTT-to-weight formula in 2025 (Scott Holub). Pre-2025 records used the 2017 formula, which produces different % Heavy values — especially at large OTT sizes. All % Heavy values in this tool are automatically normalized to the 2025 standard so comparisons across years are accurate. Records with OTT + actual weight data get the most accurate normalization; records with OTT only use an inferred method; records without OTT use a ~−6% correction factor. Each result shows which method was used.
