🧬 Cross Predictor
Predicts the genetic potential of any Mother × Father cross. Type a full seed name or just part of one (not case-sensitive), or leave fields blank to discover the best crosses automatically.
💡 How to Use This Tool
Both seeds filled → one exact seed each: scores that specific cross and shows top alternatives with that mother. Name parts: ranks every cross between the matching mothers and fathers.
Mother only → finds the best fathers to cross with your mother seed (or with every seed whose name contains your text).
Father only → finds the best mothers to cross with your father seed (or with every seed whose name contains your text).
Both blank → discovers the top-performing crosses anywhere in the entire database.
Search tip → type a full seed name or just a part of one (e.g. “bragg” or “2026”). Not case-sensitive. Only crosses that contain a matching seed are shown, best first.
🔬 Prediction engine: pedigree breeding-value model (own fruit, parents, grandparents and every offspring, with grower and site-year effects removed). Each cross gets a full predicted weight distribution: Est. Max = 90th percentile, Est. Avg = expected weight. Back-tested on held-out seasons 2022–2025: rank correlation 0.61 where both parents had offspring data (old averaging method 0.56) and 0.50 across all crosses.

Cross Predictor finds the crosses (mother × father) predicted to make a seed that grows the biggest, heaviest, most mildew- and disease-resistant fruit. Leave both fields empty to search the whole database, fill one to find the best partners, or fill both to rate one cross.
📐 GPC Chart Normalization: All % Heavy values normalized to the 2025 GPC OTT chart standard (Scott Holub formula). Pre-2025 records used the 2017 formula — this correction ensures fair comparisons across all years.
